3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Adhesive Film AF 163-2U .030 is an unsupported thermosetting modified epoxy adhesive film developed for demanding aerospace structural bonding applications. It is designed for bonding metal and composite substrates, including solid-panel and honeycomb sandwich constructions, where high fracture toughness, peel strength and long-term durability are required. The .030 designation refers to an adhesive weight of approximately 0.030 lb/ft², with a nominal film thickness of 5.5 mil (approximately 0.14 mm). The unsupported construction makes AF 163-2U suitable for applications such as reticulation onto honeycomb cores. The film is red in its standard .030 configuration. AF 163-2U is designed for a 250°F (120°C) cure and can be cured across a broader temperature range of approximately 180–300°F (80–150°C). It offers good shop handling characteristics, excellent pre-bond humidity performance on composite substrates, high fracture toughness and peel strength, and can be processed using vacuum or relatively low-pressure bonding methods.
