3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Adhesive Film AF 163-2U 0.030 WT is an unsupported thermosetting modified epoxy adhesive film developed for demanding aerospace structural bonding applications. It is designed for bonding metal and composite solid panels as well as honeycomb sandwich structures, where high fracture toughness, peel strength and long-term durability are required. The 0.030 WT version has an adhesive weight of approximately 0.030 lb/ft² and a nominal thickness of 5.5 mil (approximately 0.14 mm). It is supplied in red and is available in roll formats, including 36-inch-wide material. 3M identifies this version as an unsupported film, which can also be used for reticulation applications. AF 163-2U is designed for a 250°F (120°C) cure, with the adhesive capable of curing from approximately 180°F (80°C) to 300°F (150°C). The adhesive provides high fracture toughness and peel strength together with good shop-handling characteristics and pre-bond humidity performance on composite substrates. 3M's aerospace specification database specifically lists AF 163-2U 0.03 WT for aerospace requirements, including references to Boeing BMS 5-101N Type IV Grade 5 and other aerospace specifications.
