3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Adhesive Film AF 163-2OST .030 WT is a thermosetting modified epoxy adhesive film designed for structural bonding of metal and composite components in demanding aerospace applications. It is suitable for solid-panel and honeycomb sandwich construction where high fracture toughness, peel strength and long-term bond durability are required. The .030 WT version has an adhesive weight of 0.030 lb/ft² and a nominal thickness of 5.5 mil (approximately 0.14 mm). AF 163-2OST uses a one-side-tacky, non-woven carrier on a matte scrim, with the .030 WT version identified by 3M as green. The adhesive is designed for a 250°F (120°C) cure and can be cured from approximately 180°F (80°C) to 300°F (150°C). 3M highlights its excellent shop-handling characteristics, pre-bond humidity performance on composite substrates, high fracture toughness and peel strength. 3M's aerospace specification database lists AF 163-2OST .03 WT against several aerospace requirements, including Boeing BMS 5-101N Type II Grade 5 and BMS 5-129L Type 4 Class IID Grade 5. It is also listed under COMAC and other aerospace specifications.
