Description
Black PTFE Film (Carbon Filled, Etched One Side) is a bondable fluoropolymer film manufactured from carbon-filled polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). One surface is chemically etched to modify the normally non-stick PTFE surface, allowing adhesives such as epoxy systems to bond to the treated side. Untreated PTFE has very low surface energy and is difficult to bond; chemical etching increases surface reactivity for adhesive bonding. The carbon-filled construction provides a black appearance and can provide enhanced wear resistance, dimensional stability and thermal conductivity compared with unfilled PTFE, depending on the specific carbon formulation. Carbon-filled PTFE materials are used where the combination of PTFE's chemical resistance and low-friction characteristics with improved mechanical properties is required. The single-side etched configuration leaves one surface suitable for bonding while retaining the characteristic PTFE surface properties on the opposite side. This makes the film suitable for applications involving bonded PTFE liners, protective surfaces, sliding interfaces and other engineered fluoropolymer components.
